Freethought Today

Freethought Today is a newspaper produced by the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) consisting of 10 issues per year. They do charge a subscription fee of $20 per year but anyone can request a free 1-issue trial from their website. I strongly encourage everyone to do so despite religious beliefs.

For one reason or another, after signing up for the free trial, we are continuing to receive each new issue. No they aren’t scamming me, they don’t require any credit card info to get the free trial. I imagine someone just put us on the wrong list. But anyway, one of the sections we’ve come to enjoy most lists a few unedited crank emails which the FFRF has received. For a taste, I’ve included a few below.

I am not a promoter of self-censorship such as people who say A-hole and frick. The offensiveness of speech comes from the meaning one conveys and euphemisms don’t hide that well. But not wanting to taint my blog, I have decided to censor some of the filth in these emails from others (I also don’t want my site to be flagged for profanity). Be sure to take note of the author of the second response.

dear f@gs – what is important is your f@g like ideals about seperating the church from state. Did you idiots know that are country was built on christianity. (Jacob Jalouska, Feb. 6)

Come on now – you’re all in love with satan and kiss his @$$ and suck the crap that flows out of it. May you burn in hell for your anti-Christian activities, oh you may believe that there is no hell, but you will find out you athiest satanic bastards! (Rev. Ormus, Feb. 22)

Burn in hell!!!! – IF YOU DON’T LIKE GOD OR DON’T BELIEVE IN HIM, YOU ARE INFRINGING ON MY RIGHTS AS A CITIZEN OF THE US (Sean Day, Feb. 22)

It was pretty hard to not just list them all. So many coming from people who consider themselves to be Christians involve the words hate, burn, die and an abuse of the caps lock key.

The excerpts above hint at much of the content within the paper’s articles. So many crimes against humanity are occurring on a regular basis under the protection of religion. But don’t be worried that this paper boasts nothing but horror stories. There are also numerous articles entailing the accomplishments of the foundation as well as major accomplishments made by other religion-less people and organizations.
