Half-Life: The Movie

Don’t get your hopes up, no one is making this movie. I bring it up simply because I can’t believe it. The original story lends itself so nicely to a movie and with current CGI capabilities it could turn out amazingly. The game with it’s many mods, was without doubt, a revolution or even a recreation of the gaming world. And in this decade there has seemingly been no inhibition when proposing movies based off of video games.

Up and coming movies:

  • Splinter Cell
  • Mortal Kombat (Yes, another one)
  • Halo
  • Spy Hunter
  • Tekken
  • Castlevania
  • Prince of Persia
  • Driver
  • Far Cry
  • Max Payne
  • Hitman <- I really hope this is done well
  • Postal

Recent game-based movies:

  • DOA
  • Doom
  • Final Fantasy (lots of them)
  • Resident Evil 1 and 2
  • Tomb Raider 1 and 2

I, like so many I know, spent far too much time playing mods based on the Half-Life engine and I can state with certainty that people like me would pay to see movies based off of the original game, the sequel and the various mods.

  1. I’m personally thrilled to read your opinion on the topic of a Half-Life film because I am endeavoring to write a screenplay for one. It’s very encouraging to hear others give optimism in the light of so many Half-Life purist nay-sayers!

  2. I agree with you completely but If a Half-Life movie is going to be done, IT HAS TO BE DONE RIGHT!… unlike Doom, the movie, which completely tossed the story of the doom games.
