You’d be amazed at how much that ½” of cushion in the heal of your shoe limits how far your calf muscles stretch when running. I know I was after only a couple miles in my new Vibram FiveFingers. 

I have to assume the name came about when it was decided that FiveToes just doesn’t roll off the tongue. 

Although there is going to be a significant period of adaptation, the sensation is wonderful; somewhere between running barefoot and walking around in slippers. I may never again have to choose between horrific blisters from hiking/running shoes and injured feet from no shoes at all.
